This was a great app for drawing. The ads were too bad and recently they’ve started to be come more intrusive. To even start drawing now you need to watch and ad, it’s ridiculous the amount of ads, like I was fine with the ads before as they didn’t really get in the way but now they block the screen.

i’ve been using medibang for YEARS and have grown as an artist using this app and all its features. unfortunately they have grown money hungry and all my favorite brushes are now behind a paywall and the ads have become insufferable. i hate to leave this app since its the one i’ve grown most comfortable with and has many wonderful features i have taken the time to learn, but its just too much to put up with anymore

ive been using this app for at least a decade, its sad to see random brushes get hidden behind paywalls out of nowhere 😭😭!!

I’ve been using this app since 2019 because it felt like striking gold in the form of a free drawing app with all it used to have and be. But now there’s a requirement to watch 1 ad for 3 hours of drawing time, so many brushes have been restricted behind paywall, premium membership is pushed to the forefront, and its interface has become so ugly and confusing, that it’s no longer worth it. It’s very saddening to see what’s become of the app

I’ve used this app for years. Not really because I want to, but because the hassle of learning a new program all over seemed more annoying than dealing with Medibang’s issues. I’ve paid the subscription for a while now, and looking at the other reviews, it seems they’re locking basic brushes away behind that paywall now. Is that why every single update I have to deal, AGAIN, with all my brushes being reset? I’m sick of it. The brushes are ALWAYS being moved around and changed when a new update drops, which sounds like a small change, whatever, but it’s genuinely so infuriating dealing with it so often. It lags up the entire brush menu with stuff I don’t even want, and I have to go in and find the ones I DO use and bring them back at the top. Sick of it. Will probably, finally look for a different program today

I’m beyond disappointed. I’ve been using this app since I was in middle school, for almost a decade, and I’ve always loved it. The audacity of the developers to take brushes that have been free this entire time and put them behind a paywall is a shameless cash grab that makes me never want to touch this app again. I cannot believe they would cause long time users these problems. My favorite brushes I can no longer use because I don’t want to watch an ad to use them for three hours or just pay for premium, it’s not fair to those who have been using these brushes freely forever. There were already premium brushes, stick to those. Leave ours alone. Disappointed in you, Medibang.

I have been using this app for many years and I’ve always appreciated its simplicity and intuitive design, but now brushes that I’ve been using for years atp are behind a paywall now? I don’t want to watch an ad every 3 hours just to use the tools that I have been using freely for nearly a decade. If I wanted that I would’ve downloaded Ibis Paint. I also bought some custom brushes and those haven’t been honored for years either, but I was fine ignoring it until now. I’m moving digital art programs ASAP.

there were intrusive ads before, now we have to watch ads to use the app?? this was a great app for me to grow up on as a digital artist when i could create without having a single advertisement pushed on me and it was why i used it for so long. i'm so disappointed in the corporate greed advertisement bandwagon for ruining this too. i have deleted medibang and unfortunately will not be using it ever again because of this.

I’ve been a faithful medibang paint user since 2018 because out of all the free digital art apps I’ve tried, it has the most features. However, since the apps most recent update it has become a pain to use. The ads are near unbearable, I have to sit through a 30 second ad every time I need to open or close a canvas. I am also extremely disappointed that BOTH of my go-to brushes that I’ve been using for years are now locked behind medibang paint premium. This push to paywall the app doesn’t make me want to buy premium, it makes me want to switch programs. The only reason I haven’t switched to procreate is because my iPad is too old to download it.

I’ve been using this app to draw for the better part of six years. Don’t get me wrong, it has its flaws, but for being a free drawing app, I loved it. That was until a recent update made the FREE brush that i was using for FIVE YEARS blocked behind a paywall. In fact, it blocked several other brushes that used to be free too. No offense but if I had to spend my money on a drawing app, it would not be this one. I would rather spend my money on a better software. The reason why I gravitated towards Medibang was because it was free. I’ll begrudgingly be using this app until I either find a better one or if it goes back to how it used to be

I’ve been a MediBang Paint user for about 10 years now. I’ve finally had to change programs as of the recent update. When I first started using this app, there was hardly any advertisement content on your page. Now, everything requires you to watch an ad including accessing your own canvas, which will then have another ad at the top the entire time you work. In the update for brushes, they locked previously free brushes behind a new ad and/or paywall. It is not financially viable for me to pay a premium just to draw, and I cannot stand the constant bombardment of advertisements. More and more tools continue to be taken from users. I am sad to leave, but I cannot take being treated like this as a patron.

I know many other apps aren’t much better about this in terms of advertising but I’ve been very disappointed by the decline of this app. While this app has always offered a premium membership through my years of using it, they didn’t use to push it as hard as they are currently in 2025. I was a loyal user of about 7 years, and the last straw was when I discovered that the brushes I had downloaded years before either made me get the premium membership or watch an ad to use brushes I already owned for a few hours. I uninstalled this app and switched to ibispaint. While they have ads for brushes too, at least they weren’t for brushes I already owned.

Ads every 2 seconds, not that much of a bummer it’s just unmotivating lol

I can’t even make anything now without watching ads first and it never used to be like this. There’s a pop up that says you get to use it for three hours for free or subscribe to medibang premium. I tolerated the ads before but this is getting ridiculous.

Ads everywhere. Every time i want to save an ad pops up. Trying to export the photo an ad pops up. The app constantly crashes as well. By far one of the biggest fall offs I’ve seen.

locking brushes behind ads when you already see an ad when you open the app and have an ad on the top of the screen 24/7 is absurd.

the thing i loved about medibang is their variety of brushes that didn’t include a paywall, but now they’ve decided to make almost every brush premium only! Now medibang is a complete downgrade, they don’t even give you 24 hours with the brush after watching an ad! only 3 hours! I’m so disappointed, i’ve been using this app for almost 8 years now but not anymore after this dumb decision! you’re better off using ibis paint!

This WAS a great app for the longest time! Very minimal, non-intrusive ads, but now you get a pop-up with sound every time you switch apps and you have to watch an ad every hour or so to even use the program. Premium features, compared to any other drawing app with paid features, do not justify the pricetag. You're better off using any other app if you're looking for a free mobile drawing software.

This app has fallen. I shouldn’t have to watch an ad to use an app. Deleting it after being loyal for years.

I have used this app for the past four years but I will now be switching until these issues are addressed. First: ads. The ads when you don’t have pro are ridiculous. There’s an ad right on the canvas at all times, and just about everytime you reopen the app, an ad plays. Everytime you save a drawing, either in your gallery or as a picture, an ad plays. I was able to tolerate this for a long time, but now in the new update, just about every special brush is locked behind a paywall, with the option to watch an ad to use it for three hours. I can’t take this corporatism anymore. I’m switching to ibisPaint for the forseeable future. I expect better from you, MediBang. You have ruined this once great app.

I was trying to draw and it started to pop up that I had to watch an ad and I’ll get use for 3 hours or buy medibang premium or some thing and I loved this app for the fact that it was free with minimal ads?!!! Now it’s gonna force me to watch an ad to use? I didn’t mind the add at the end of drawing cuz I could close out of it not do I mind ads but making me watch one to use it is wild.

Ive been using medibang since 2017 and i will continue to use it since its what im used to (or until i can buy something better) but these ads are insane. Not only do the ads cover my screen, theyre loud (im usually listening to music when drawing and the ads come on randomly and scare me..) and inappropriate. It makes me think for the kids who may be using this app to draw. If the app plans on keeping the ads please monitor the ads better? Update: This is the worst update by far; You cant even start drawing without getting a pop up asking for you to watch an ad to use the app for what its made for!! And three hours later youre required to watch another? Im just going to switch my drawing app at this point.. This is ridiculous.

This feels out of the blue and so untransparent as to why this got implemented, also. it literally bugs whether i have wifi on or not, so i can’t watch an ad regardless. genuinely why did you choose to do this??

I’d rather not be asked to watch an ad while drawing. Banner ads are eh, that’s just excessive. More importantly doesn’t support a feature of iPhones that have 3D Touch functionality.

I have been using this art program since 2016! I have LOVED this app and ONLY use this app, but as of recently this app has been CRASHING, CRASHING and CRASHING! I’n just one hour this app has crashed (and I counted) 4 times! I have updated my phone countless of times, cleared my storage, turn phone on and off and Even resorted to using the smallest file size JUST TO MAKE IT STOP! I cannot work on a single art project without it crashing on me. It’ll bug out, make my drawing go invisible, a weird box glitch across my screen, and crash out of nowhere. I WANT IT TO STOP!!!!!! PLEASE MAKE IT STOP!!!!!!

The ads on this app used to be tolerable, ad when you started a new drawing? Okay. Ad as soon as you open the app, while your drawing and when you go to save the image is overkill. Especially when the ads being shown are blatant scams. Deleting the app immediately.

Needs more work and needs simple tools

Ok ngl this is a great app buuuuttttt if ur like me (aka someone who is not very good at art or has no idea wat their doing) it can be confusing at first. I mean yes they do have templates that you can trace but that only lasts so long. I am pretty much a total beginner so I don't really know if this is a good drawing app but I like it. I like how you can look at others art 🎨 it's really inspiring 😄 (but smth I don't really like is that u don't know wat the brushes look like until u draw with them)

When I first got this ap I only got an ad when starting it and exiting paint and I thought “this is ok”, then I started getting ads when I wanted to export/save my art and I was like “hmm a little annoying”, and NOW I get an ad almost every time I wanna save my progress on a piece and this app auto saves every so often so you could just be drawing and get an ad out of nowhere y have to click on not one but THREE Xs to get out of it. Do yourself a favor if you get this app and only use it on airplane mode so that way they can’t bother you with all the ads.

First, I think MediBang is great! I just do not approve of ads. And also I’d like to have the app just a little better(More modern and arranged better). But other than that, I love it! Thank you so much MediBang

The ads were already super annoying, I left a previous review about it clearly to no avail. It was a 3 star review but now, since I’m interrupted WHILE DRAWING to show me an ad that it takes 3 x’s to actually get rid of, it’s now one star and I will be deleting the app. I don’t recommend if you want to be uninterrupted while drawing.

Love this app, done some of my best work on here. But there’s an issue where I try to export a transparent png, but it’s not coming out transparent. Wasn’t an issue before I updated.

Please fix a bug on the edge pen!! When I use the edge pen and hit preserve edge and undo it also undos the option to preserve the edge. Other programs do not do this. Please fix it so that drawing things like hair and laces would be easier !

The amount of ad popups in this app is abysmal. It ruined the enjoyment of this app.

Starting it off with the Pros of this app! There is NO paywall! At least I don’t think or know of, I just started using the app. There is also brush variety, not to mention it has extra tools like the lasso or invert! Even a grid! When you first open the app, it gives you the option to click the help button, or you can figure it all out yourself. Also good zoom in and out, not to mention toon brush texture! Now what about the Cons? The brushes are very pixelated when you zoom in, though it isn’t that big of a deal. The biggest problem is the amount of options you have in one screen, like two different buttons for a tools option, or trying to figure out where to change the brushes. Also the eraser and blur is in the same order with the brushes. The pop up ads and random adds gave me Ibs paint vibes. However… This is an amazing app and would recommend to people, though I would warn them about the over complicated tool placement. Might use this from now on!

ibis paint x and hipaint can work very great, but this wonderful app can't????

Every single time you do something there is an ad. I never remember it being this bad when I used to use it regularly.

I’ve used this app for many years, and through every update it’s ad placement has become louder and more aggressively shoved down our throats to push a subscription. I understand it’s a free app and needs to make money, but it shouldn’t come at the expanse of the user.

This works well I know I really don’t like the fact my screen keeps freezing. I could be drawing and I saved my drawing, Two minutes later and I’m being kicked out the app. (Also VERY pixelated) Other than that it’s good..

But when I draw it lags behind my finger and stuff but it's super cool

I’ve used this app for years, and my rating was five stars until whatever happened with this last update. The app has been erratic and buggy ever since.

Advertisements have completely ruined this app for me, every time you save book full screen ad. Banner ads that take up drawing space. Honestly just make the app paid for and be done with it. I’d rather pay $30-60 for an art app that just works and doesn’t have ads than pay nothing for one with ads. Also screw paying a subscription just for no ads, that is such a scummy tactic and you KNOW it is, basically the same tactics as adobe which is what people are trying to avoid!
